That voice inside you saying “I won’t repeat these patterns” – I hear it. I created this journal because that same voice lived in me, alongside all the times I caught myself acting exactly like my parents swore they never would.
This journal turns that determination into daily practice. Through 60 days of guided prompts and creative practices, you’ll build the consistent, loving relationship with yourself that changes how you parent – both your inner child and your own children.
The result? You’ll finally:
Stop automatically reacting in ways that remind you of your own upbringing
You know those moments when you promise yourself you’ll do things differently, then find yourself repeating exact phrases from your childhood? When you’re trying so hard to create change but feel stuck in old patterns?
I see you. As a therapist working with inner child healing for nearly two decades, I’ve watched countless people transform their relationship with themselves through consistent, guided reflection.
❤︎ "The moment I learned to make myself small..."
❤︎ "I parent myself with gentleness when..."
❤︎ "My body holds this truth..."
❤︎ "Today I choose differently by..."
❤︎ "The safety I create for myself looks like..."
→ Morning check-ins that set new patterns
→ Evening rituals that calm your nervous system
→ Creative exercises that speak when words can't
→ Concrete ways to mother yourself daily
Every family has its patterns. The words we use. The emotions we hide. The ways we protect ourselves. These patterns live in our hearts long after childhood ends.
Your inner child remembers everything. The quiet moments of fear. The bright bursts of joy. The times you needed comfort and found none. These memories shape your adult life in ways both subtle and profound.
Simple moments trigger old patterns. The harsh words you speak when stressed – echoing what you heard as a child. The self-criticism that sounds exactly like your early caregivers. The automatic reactions that don’t match who you want to be.
The power lies in recognizing these patterns. Your inner child holds wisdom about what you truly need. Through gentle attention and consistent care, these old wounds transform into sources of strength.
My approach creates lasting change through:
When you heal your relationship with your inner child, everything shifts. Your reactions soften. Your choices expand. Your authentic self emerges.
I’m Cynthia Alonzo Perez, a first-generation licensed therapist and daughter of immigrants from Yucatan, Mexico. My journey began with degrees in Xicana/Latine Studies and Social Work from Cal State Long Beach, leading to nearly two decades of working with families across Southern California.
In 2021, I founded Rooted in Reflection to create something I couldn’t find in traditional therapy spaces – a place where clinical psychology and cultural wisdom dance together. Through my podcast “Confetti All Around,” I share stories and strategies that make healing feel both powerful and playful.
My work lives at the intersection of modern science and ancestral knowing. I translate complex research about psychology and neuroscience into practical tools for breaking cycles.
Whether I’m teaching workshops, speaking at conferences, or creating courses, my focus stays clear: helping people understand their patterns and reclaim their joy.
My approach brings together everything I’ve learned as a therapist, everything I’ve lived as a first-gen daughter, and everything I believe about our capacity to transform.
Your healing story matters. Let’s write it together.
When you create a physical space dedicated to your inner child healing, you’re doing something your nervous system deeply understands. Tangible objects and rituals activate what researchers call “embodied cognition” — the idea that our bodies and environments shape how we think and feel, not just our minds. This is inner child somatic practice in its most accessible form. That’s why holding your abuela’s rosary or lighting a candle in a quiet corner can shift something words alone can’t reach. Inner child altars give your brain a concrete anchor for abstract healing work — bridging epigenetics, ancestral wisdom, and the kind of body-based knowing that Latina and Indigenous communities have honored for generations. This workbook walks you through the process so it feels natural, not forced — because healing should feel like coming home, not completing an assignment.
Maybe you live in a tiny apartment. Maybe you share a room. Maybe the idea of “sacred space” feels intimidating because nobody in your family ever had language for that. That’s exactly why this workbook exists. Your inner child altar can be a windowsill, a corner of your dresser, or a small box you keep under your bed. What matters isn’t the size or the aesthetics — it’s the act of choosing yourself. Of saying, “my inner child deserves a soft place to land.” Created by Cynthia Perez, LCSW, this free inner child healing guide was designed with first-gen Latina experiences at the center — because so much of mainstream wellness skips over the cultural layers that make our healing unique. Whether you’re exploring inner child work for the first time or deepening an existing inner child somatic practice, this workbook meets you where you are. No perfect setup required. Just you, a few meaningful objects, and the willingness to show up for the kid you once were.
